Montrose to Gunnison

I never quite understood or appreciated the comment people would make, "The trip is part of your vacation or journey."  To me the 'getting there' was an inconvenience that had to be accepted to get to a destination.  That is too bad.  I missed a lot of vacation time with that perspective!

Arriving at the Blue Mesa Reservoir.  It is a huge lake that you drive along for miles.  There are many interesting photographic opportunities and few pull-outs.  Fortunately, Tom is riding shot camera in the passenger seat!

There were lots of quick moving rain storms all around us.

Hmmm . . . . there must be a lake there somewhere.

These are the Dillon Pinnacles. They are made up of rock that from volcanic eruptions some 30 million years ago.  They are part of the Curecanti Recreation Area.

Tom is always looking for great spots to photograph cars.  This would not be the car he would choose, but the spot is great!  Can you spot the fisherman?
